Trip Tuesday – long plane ride – peaceful landing – Feb 25, 2014

Today’s pic comes from our first ever family trip to Disney World back in early January 2008.  It was just my wife, son and myself as our daughter wasn’t born yet at this point.

Our son was only 17 months old when we took this trip and our flight down coincided nicely with his nap time.  He was young enough we didn’t need a seat for him and we held him for the flight.  We figured that since his nap time was going to be during the flight this was going to be an easy.

He had different ideas.  He wouldn’t sit still the whole trip, he wasn’t loud or crazy and there really wasn’t any crying but he was a major ball of energy for the whole flight.  As the flight continued we could see he was very tired, but still wouldn’t settle down.  Frankly it was exhausting.

It must have been exhausting for him too as he finally settled down – honestly seconds before the plane touched down.  This pic is the frazzled look on my wife’s face and the snuggled in little guy.  Ahh kids.

Trip Tuesday – 3, 2, 1…. – Dec 31, 2014

On New Years Eve it seems kind of appropriate to have a picture for today’s post that has a count down.  It isn’t directly related to New Years but it does fit the trip theme for the day.  This picture was taken at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on the tour that is available beyond the main area.  The tour takes you to a few places including a spot where you can see where the space shuttles were launched from and also a large building dedicated to the Apollo series of space missions – very cool place.

This photo is taken in the Apollo building during a mock up show of what the control room looked like during the launch of those missions.  I set up my camera to not flash and to work well in low light – I also had it on a monopod so that any shake of my hand would be less noticeable.  Came out with a very cool shot at 1 second to launch – very cool tour – highly recommended.

Trip Tuesday – Kennedy Space Center and our Son – Dec 17th, 2013

For this one I decided on a pic of our son on an excursion to the Kennedy Space Center.  We were staying near Disney World in a townhouse rental for 3 weeks in January 2010.  During that trip we did a few different runs away from the core Disney World area and one of those trips was the Space Center.

Our son was 3.5 at the time and our daughter was about 14 months – needless to say they got a bit bored after a while…and maybe a bit loopy.  As highlighted by this pic.

I did get a nice pic of the boy just standing there smiling but this picture is just more…well…him.

We didn’t through the whole center in one day so my brother and I came back just ourselves to finish it another day and I went crazy with the camera but this was definitely a good capture that first day.

Trip Tuesday – T-Rex – Dec 24th, 2013

Calling this one as a “trip” item and not Disney took a bit of thinking but since it is a Landry restaurant even though it is at Downtown Disney at Disney World I am going to make a call of convenience and it say this is not truly Disney.  It can be argued the other way but I am in a hurry so I am making the call.

I took this shot with our video camera between the “meteor storms” that happen every 15 minutes or so.  We were seated in the ice cave area that is made to look like the inside of a big glacier with a big T-Rex skeleton frozen in the ice.  There is a cool blue glow most of the time when the meteor storms aren’t happening – when they are though the room gets very red and yellow.  It is a pretty cool effect.

I remember the food being decent but the place is really about the theming and the atmosphere – the kids love it and I have enjoyed it the couple times we have gone.

Trip Tuesday – Dec 10th, 2013 – Sea World Feb 2009

Similar to the Magic Memory Monday post for this week – this pic comes from our first trip as a family of 4 in February 2009.  We decided this trip to grab a cab from the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort to Sea World to check things out.

I have a whack of pictures from that day that are the back of people as they were looking at things like the turtles, the rays and the dolphins but this one is one of the good ones where the family faced the camera!

Our daughter doesn’t look too impressed at this point but a lovely smile from our son here.  It was a pretty good day, although I do remember getting rained on heavily for a little while.  This was the last time we had gone to Sea World though – maybe on our next trip we will think about getting there again?

Trip Tuesday – Atlas V Engines – Nov 26, 2013

I am going to try another new type of post today.  Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are all specifically Disney and Disney World related but we have a lot of photos and memories of our trips to Orlando that aren’t specifically Disney related.  I am thinking that is what Tuesday posts will be – Trip Tuesday – things to do with our family trips that aren’t necessarily Disney.

To start off with today I want to throw up a picture from Kennedy Space Centre I took in January 2010.  We were down in Orlando for 3 weeks staying in a townhouse and my brother came and stayed with us for a while.  We did a family day at Kennedy Space Centre but my brother and I also went back one day on our own and I took a crap load pictures while there.

This is one of my favourites from that day.  I was standing underneath one of the Saturn V’s and mostly by fluke got this awesome shot.  I love the colours and the sharpness and detail.
